Overview
Project execution
The Castoro 12 pipe lay barge required a dedicated conversion and preparation scope to allow transfer out of the Caspian Sea through the Volga-Don channel. Baku Shipyard carried out drydocking, slab transfer, structural preparation, cutting along the centreline, disconnection of cross systems, temporary closures, protection works and final coating touch-up for safe onward transportation.
Scope of Work
Repair scope
- Preparation works, including removal of unnecessary structures and warehouse parts
- Drydocking and undocking of the barge
- Transfer of the barge to the repair slab
- Steel works for installation of temporary supports for the helideck and beveling area
- Cutting along centreline and temporary closure of openings
- Disconnection of cross piping and cabling
- Installation of fenders on each pontoon at centreline
- Dismounting of helideck planks and cutting of helideck beams
- Dismounting of the main mast
- Dismounting of main crane A-frame and stinger
- Installation of towing bridles and emergency bridles on each pontoon
- Protection of cables, lighting and special equipment from hot works with fire blankets and metal shields
- Power tooling of burned areas on the cut line where necessary and touch-up painting with primer coat

Stage 01
Preparation and docking
The barge was prepared for transfer works, drydocked and moved to the repair slab for controlled structural operations.
Stage 02
Separation works
Centreline cutting, system disconnections, helideck, mast, crane A-frame and stinger dismantling were completed.
Stage 03
Transport readiness
Fenders, towing bridles, emergency bridles, temporary closures, hot-work protection and coating touch-ups were completed for onward transfer.
